How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?

Shockwave therapy is also known as radial pressure shockwave therapy.  It is a newly-available treatment for the management of pain caused by various musculoskeletal disorders and injuries.

A shock wave is an intense, short-energy wave that moves faster than the speed of sound. This energy wave is used to target painful areas in musculo-skeletal tissues. The energy accelerates the healing process by switching on the body’s own healing mechanisms.

These healing mechanisms have often been interrupted when the body gets into an inflammatory cycle, such as in a case of tendonitis.

Is Shockwave Therapy Right For You?

Shockwave therapy may be the solution for you if:

  • You are struggling with an ongoing soft tissue or joint injury.
  • You have been diagnosed with tennis or golfer's elbow, rotator cuff, gluteal or achilles tendonitis.
  • You are struggling with heel pain or plantar fasciitis.
  • You are having trouble sleeping because of your pain and this is impacting your mood and energy during the day.
  • You have been told to have an injection and would like to avoid this.
  • You have already had an injection and the pain has come back.
  • You have been told to take painkillers and would rather get to the root of the problem.
  • You are starting to worry that your injury is not going to get better and it's getting you down.
